Just the tonic

You guys are amazing.  Every time I start having doubts about whether I'm cut out to be a proper author, or the task ahead seems too daunting, you always manage to offer words of encouragement that makes me realise that I'm not the only one who gets this mindset.

I've had another look at my MS today with fresh eyes, and now, it all seems clear.  I can still see the issues, but I can see that the changes are making it tighter.
I think that part of the cause was that when I write, it floods out, and I don't really concentrate too hard on it as it all seems to be formed and waiting to be typed.  I can see the progress very clearly.  The problem with editing, is that you are scrutinising every word, sentence, and paragraph.  It's slow going, and I lose sight of any reference points to what reads well.
Like I said.  You guys help me re-gain some perspective. :o)
I also received the Blog on Fire award from Abby.  I'll put the entry up for this tomorrow, it's a bit mad at the moment, and I can't think of 7 facts that are even remotely interesting.

  1. Dang, I just posted the best comment and it didn't post. Oh Poop! Whatever, basically I said you are brilliant. And I love that you're from England. It makes you more mysterious.

  2. I'm glad you're feeling better about the process. We'll always be around to cheer you on. :)

  3. Erin - Thanks! I don't know about mysterious, although, it is a mystery that I manage to string a sentence together at times. lol

Carrie - That's good to know. Thanks :o)

  4. Some days are tough (and others much worse), but every once in a while it all makes sense. In the end, it is worth it.
Editing really is tough - took me one year to write my first and almost a year now to edit...

  5. E.D. - It's kind of good knowing that I'm not alone. On the other hand, i feel for every one who's struggling with an edit.

  6. You're doing great. Don't be too hard on yourself. Writing ebbs and flows. We love it when it flows and we wonder what's wrong with us when it ebbs.
I'm glad you got some good editing done! My revisions are killing me, in a good way. ; )

  7. Believe me... you are not the only one who feels that self doubt. We all do. I have found so much inspiration and camaraderie in the writing community though. They will definitely keep you going. Don't quit!

  8. Emily - You're probably right. I'm being a bit hard on myself. It's the first time that I've used the new knowledge I've gained over the past few months to full use. I think I'm getting frustrated that it's not getting to where I see it should be fast enough. I hope your revisions aren't too arduous :o)

Abby - That's one think that I have noticed since I've started blogging is how every one is rooting for you! Don't worry, quitting isn't an option. I just needed a dose of perspective :o)
