A load of...

Last night I was following a lorry when it started to shed it's load.
I couldn't believe it!  Surely he must know that the load wasn't secure.  I started flashing him, tooting my hooter, and pointing at the back of of the lorry.
Eventually, he pulled up, and I jumped out and ran up to the cab.
"You're losing your load mate.  It's going all over the road!"
He looked me up and down, gave a 'tut' and shook his head.  "I'm gritting the road you fool!"

  1. This made me laugh in so many ways! Even though I have no idea what a lorry is! (At first I thought it was an animal, but that stopped making sense as I read further...) Can't say I know what "gritting the road" is. And I'm fairly certain I've never heard the phrase "tooting my hooter."

Eventually, I translated as this: A truck was dumping stuff on the road. You used everything within your means to attract the guy's attention (which involved flashing your lights and honking your horn) to let him know that he was dumping stuff on the road. But the stuff he was dumping was the salt/gravel mixture they use so your car doesn't slide when it snows. How did I do?

  2. And who said that we don't speak the same language?
    Yes, you translated it perfectly.
I'm glad it made you laugh :o)

  3. ha ha ha! That's hilarious. I didn't understand half of what you were saying at first, but when I read through it a second time I think I got it. I'm going to start "tooting my hooter" all over the joint! I'm not sure what "gritting the road" means but I assume it means the guy was a total hoser and was a half-wit driver.

And two points for me because I think I know that Lorry means truck. Right? Do I win a trip to England now?

  4. Lol, oh wow. This was awesome.

Gotta be honest, I had to read it twice because my potty mind kicked in gear and totally thought you meant you actually flashed him, then tooted. *slaps forehead*

  5. Erin - This post is becoming a lot funnier now I realise that you guys haven't got a clue what I'm on about :o)
Gritting the road means that he was in a... erm.. 'truck' that spreads salt and gravel on the icy roads for the cars.

  6. Hahaha...I had to suspend my confusion before I understood what was happening. I read "lorry shedding its load" and thought you were talking about a pooping bird. My husband's a parrot fanatic, so I have birds on the brain. Now I understand, and my vocabulary has expanded.

  7. Hahahahah. Not only was this post entertaining all my itself because us Americans had no idea what you were talking about, then all the comments added to the funny. Love it! I agree with Erin. I'm going to start tooting my hooter, too!
